Antique Electronic Supply purchased the Aero-M machinery to manufacture the can caps used in vintage gear. They now offer a moderate assortment that meets most needs. In the case of the ST70 they offer an exact replacement C-EC4020X2-525 for $30.95 that mounts directly and hooks up easily. www.tubesandmore.comThey also offer a C-EC80-40-30-20 cap which has 80/40/30/20uf sections and is the same size for $32.95. I prefer this cap, but you must rotate it 90 degrees so that the 40uf section follows the rectifier and the 80uf section is after the choke. It is fairly simple to figure out which way to install the replacment, but if it sounds at all confusing just go with the above part.
I've used "kluged" replacements under the chassis, as well as much larger cap banks with the ST70. Frankly I like the above part best both sonically and aesthetically. By the time you try and squeeze 4 caps under the chassis and locate 525v rated parts you might as well just spring for the $33 and be done!
