I have not done an A/B with 13D5 versus 5814s and worse yet my best 5814s are British not Hytron, but Brimars, Mullards etc. I found the 13D5 has better tonal balance and reaches further down , in effect more bass and mid bass wich is slightly euphonic. Let me stress lightly. The main issue with both types is that they have a somewhat faster attack and decay than an AU7 and that can make them sound hard or strong. They are cleaner sounding all around IMHO and when I brought a variety of AU7s to a friend to try some rolling he chose the 13D5 for his Atmasphere Mp3 Pre amp a sensitive application. Oh yes we had some heavily used GE clear tops side getters in the mix I don't think I have the RCA I am sorry.
