I would have suspected CD players with such different resistance readings (400 vs. 40,000) to possibly cause a problem on the input side rather than the output side. Probably not related to the glowing tube problem. I wish I knew someone who repaired this stuff.
This is my 2nd Hafler amp with a channel out. If I am going to use this old gear, I need to learn how to fix it.
