Top Hats are wonderful dampers. They are much more effective at damping then Herbie's. Superglue works well to attach them, and it's easily removable with some gentle prying (if required, assisted by nail polish remover or paint thinner). Its effect? It dampens, and dampens quite effectively. If you want even more dampening, consider VTS's octal brass dampers. If you want more subtle dampening, consider Herbie's (any of their model as they all work about the same to me).
