You are correct in your assessment of the condition of the tubes. There is no need to try and increase filament current. The tube is going to draw what it needs assuming your tester is capable of delivering the necessary current without too much voltage drop. Nonetheless, the readings, while maybe not totally accurate, are a reasonable picture of the tubes condition.A word of caution. It is true the 842 will draw more current from the filament supply. Some amps cannot handle this and you run the risk of damaging your amp. Also they need to be biased hotter than regular 300B's.
