Read this Asylum's FAQ, Tubes section, Vacuum Tube Primer article. Never again turn one on just to see if it lights up (or even sounds OK). Without a load connected (speakers or Dummy) or aged parts intitally checked & replaced, damage can quickly occur to costly or irreplaceable no longer available parts. Discover Scott info & forum by inserting hhscott inbetween the ubiquitous www dot dot com. If you cannot DIY diagnose & repair, there will be no $$ bargains with older gear (only very large metro areas can economically support vacuum tube repairmen today & they have mortgages & familys to provide for same as you; so expect to pay equal or more per hour than you yourself earn for their specialty knowledge, just like a plumber or doctor). Perhaps inquire in the Miami area of local bar bands or Music stores that sell guitars, as electric guitarists still use tube amplifiers & they will know of competant local repairmen (or search the Miami Telephone book Yellow pages on-line).
