Yes, oxidised pins or socket grips can cause poor electrical connection, resulting in pops, noise, hum or even tube & circut damage. You need to periodically clean flashlight battery connectors (in battery-powered remote controlers & other devices, too), so likewise with ANY plug-in or temporary electrical connector (even the cables that inter-connect amps, sources & speakers). BTW, that oxidation film can be invisible to the eye; it occurs via exposure to air & humidity over time.
