I have one of these amps and recently switched from Svetlana "winged" EL-34s to NOS Siemens tubes (from Kevin Deal). The difference is quite striking . . . a top to bottom improvement. A real "Wow" -- like having a different amp, at least to me. I wanted to upgrade but didn't want to spring for ultra-expensive Mullards. I'm very happy with the Siemens EL-34s and highly recommend them. A matched quad goes for $200.For 6U8s, I replaced the stock Sylvanias with Amperex made in France ECF82s, from Brendan at Tubeworld. They are definitely better than the stock tubes, but the difference isn't as dramatic as changing the EL34s. 'Can't remember what I paid for them but they were "best in stock" at the time and still far far far less expensive than the best 6DJ8 types. I don't think they were more than $75. I just checked his site and he has several "recommended" pairs in the $25 range.
