I have a Jadis DA60 which is a 60w/ch class A integrated valve amp that is now 4 years old. This amp currently uses 4 pais (2 pairs per channel) of 6550s, but can use any of the 6550/KT88/KT90 family.I noticed a severe distortion in the sound from the right channel. I turned the amp off and in trying to diagnose the cause of the problem swapped the pairs, one at a time, across channels. The distortion stayed. I then swapped the speaker cables and the distortion stayed with the right channel.
I returned the amp to the dealer for service to be told that:
a. The right channel output transformer had a fault
b. One channels worth of valves were on the way out
c. The resistors associated with the faulty valves were gone.I sent an email to Jadis and was told:
It is very rare but if the output transformer has failed , it can be 3 reasons possible
1/ one tube has failed
2/ an electric choc in main voltage (storm or something like that)
3/ if the unit had work without connect speakersIn my view
1/ All tubes are working at least well enough not to cause any audible problems
2/ No other equipment has been surge damaged
3/ The speakers has always been connected to my Triangle Ventis 222s.
Does anyone have any advice/ideas/observations?
