Tung-Sol 12AT7

I don't have a TungSol 12AT7WA, but I have tried the TungSol 6201 which is virtually identical, though it reads that your 12AT7WA must be an older version than my 6201 which is black plate with a halo getter.

I haven't spent a lot of time with the Tungsol 6201, but I was very impressed as it was a nicely energetic tube- which is why I use Siemens mostly- the Siemens triple mica E81CC is my favourite 12AT7, along with the Valvo, Hamburg 6201s that came from our friend tubemonger. Recently, I was finally able to buy some Valvo, Hamburg, blue label 6201's and though these aren't the special early triple mica pinched waist version, these Valvos are extraordinarily good. I may as well mention, while I'm on the subject of the 12AT7, the wonderful, lush sound of the Sylvania triple mica 12AT7WA- quite amazing- almost too deep!

I reaently also bought two and three mica, black plate JRP Raytheon 12AT7WAs, but I haven;t tried them yet. I haven;t a lot of either Raytheon or TungSol tubes which is a pity as they are always seem surprisingly good and well made. I know it's silly to metnion, but I really like TungSol boxes- extra heavy duty- kind of a sign of a good attitude towards quality.

If your TungSol 12AT7WAs are anything like my 6201, I think these would be perfect for your McIntosh 275. My MC240 doesn't use 12AT7's, but in my MX110, I'm planning to use a pair of the punchy Siemens E81CCs to "wake it up" a bit.
