I have a VTL 2.5 preamp which has developed a noisy 5814 tube. I would like to pick up a replacement pair, but I have no idea which tubes are preferred in this family. The noisy tubes are GE JG-5814 black plate, sqare/D getter with codes of 3-26 and 188-5. They sounded remarkably good until they got noisy.
I am using a pair of Amperex Bugle Boy 12AU-7/ECC82's (that were provided with the VTL when I bought it) for the moment, but they do not quite match the 5814's sense of "reality".
What should I try, group? Where should I get them? Help me O wise ones...
