Your comparison is not apples to apples. I've work for a few high tech companies here in the Silocon Valley. Every precision instrument (especially lasers & microscopes, and some of the electronics) will have some type of vibration damping device underneath. Some just use table top ones, and some use an air compressor-supported "rack". These vibration damping devices cost from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. Why? Because vibration is a serious issue when dealing with instruments and electronics. (Hey man, got this from our lab equipment engineers, and he's been doing this for over 25 years)
