Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

You can

Per the tester's Manual, you calibrate it yourself each time you use it (didn't you bother to read it yet?). And as to service: 1) simply clean the switches & sockets with Caig's in a normal manner (search this asylum), 2) replace the one electrolitic-construction capacitor & 3) perhaps the internal vacuum tube. Done. I suppose it is also possible a well-used socket may need replacement, or a drifted-in-value resistor if the meter cannot be set to Cal(ibrate). But the schematic is pretty simple & @ back of Manual. If the Manual & separate tube charts are not included, it is pretty much useless. However, some Sencore Manuals are on-line for free download (see the Asylum FAQ, tubes section, tester articles for a Manual link) & I sourced a copy of the tube charts for mine by watching Ebay auctions & offering the seller an extra fee for the copy service prior to auction end. In use however, your restored Sencore will be not much more than a novelty as it will pass many tubes that will not work well in-circut & cannot match power tubes or dual sections. What it was good for, was quickly spying a failed tube in a two-dozen-tube Television set during house calls, rather than critical audio Hi-Fi selection. IOW, your own amplifier can tell you more of what you want to know, & an ordinary multi-meter can check for shorts. Good luck, Ron.
