socket on rear of fisher 500B

Will a 500B fisher play music with nothing in that "control" socket? I just got this receiver but it has nothing in the socket and no music comes out the speakers. Even after replacing some questionable tubes: nothing. Tape out produces sound from the tuner section. Before I go chasing wild geese, does anyone have knowledge of that socket?
