I've experimented with perhaps two dozen pairs of Siemens CCa. I found all the early 60s grey "plates" to sound similar and all excellent. Even the ones with metallic "plates" sound mighty fine. I've only owned one pair of the D plates, so admittedly my sample size is too small to make any reasonable conclusion. That said, they sound virtually indistinguishable from the early 60s make (which is to say they sound excellent as well, but I couldn't justify the almost 2x price).
