noisy driver tubes in my Welborne Laurel 300Bs

had me change them out a while back. They went oh-so-slowly that I spent weeks with them noisy as hell and in retrospect I wonder why I didn't notice it earlier. I guess that is the 'boiled frog' syndrome in action.

Anyway, as the 6sl7's were bought new (I guess they were really 5691s) I was a bit surprised... but I had some 6sl7 red bases hanging around in my tube drawer and am back in business.

Which brings to mind, what would be the 'ultimate' driver tube for my Laurels?

Does anyone have an opinion?
