Re: Sylvania 6SN7GT VT-231 Vivid? Detailed?

If you find the Sylvania Wgta to warm, but want the air AND the bass I would try a Sylvania 6sn7W "Tall Boy" (Vivid as they get - big bottom too as a driver) or Sylvania 6sn7gt 1952 thru 1954 varieties, ie the "BadBoy" of 1952. The BadBoy internals with copper wires and triple holes I have found on 1954 6sn7gt dated tubes - so I think this 52 badboy actually might have been manufactured up till 54? Either way this tube fits your description to a tee. Detailed, vivid, air, not as wet as a "W", or even a vt231......

Come to think about it, I would try a vt231 (earlier the better)and listen to see if it looses out because of a lack of deep bass impact in your gear. If its deep bass isn't missing in your circiut then sweet! if the deep bass is missing, and with the WGTA being too warm, then the BadBoy is the way to go. The BadBoy can be a bit dry compared to a Vt231 and W Sylvania, but just as vivid and detailed and quiet, and more reliable than the "W" for sure! But $$$$ unless as dated as a 1953 or 1954 6sn7GT.
