hey thanks for the response

my amp is a Randall RG50TC...there's no downloadable manual on it as far as i know, and i lost mine >.<

but anyway, bob from eurotubes emailed me back and said that the 83s is slightly higher gain than the 803s, where the 83 can go as high as 120, and the 803 is usually maxed around 115 but averages around 95.

i was also very seriously considering the Tung-Sol 12AX7.....I hear this tube has impeccable tone, thick and dark like what i'm looking for, and has good gain levels as well. any opinions?
