Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
hey, i was looking at retubing my amp (12AX7/ECC83).it already has a fair amount of gain, on par with a JCM800, but i'd like to have more. i am looking for nice thick lows and a smooth (not super biting) midrange, but i am more concerned about the gain because tone can be sorted out with EQ.
i was considering the JJ ECC83s or ECC803s, but i'm confused. most third party sites say that the 803s is the "high gain" one, but on eurotubes.com it says that the ECC83s is about 10% more gain than the 803s. which should i go for, if i want to give my amp more gain?
do you guys have any other recommendations? my budget maximum for both tubes combined is about USD$40.
thanks in advance.
