Now, the P2SE is running with Audio Note ANE speakers, in a complete audio note system in my living room, and Quads run with a 300B SET (Welborne DRD300B) and a EL34 PP (Ars Sonum Filarmonia)

I´d say that, with ESL988, in a smallish room, normal listening levels, 80-85 db average, 90-95 db peaks, the lower power limit is a good 300B SET. But with 8W and ESLs you won´t get full scale Mahler orgies.

18W are better of course, you gain a few dbs more

Art Dudley (stereophile) used for years a P2SE with Quad ESL989. He said that it is a great match, and I´d agree with him.

About tubes:

5881 is just a 6L6GB. In the P2SE you may use any 6L6 tube, including 6L6GC.
These are available everywhere.
6L6 Sovteks are fine and cheap
NOS Tungsol 5881 are marginally better and more expensive

The most sonically important tubes are 6SL7s.
Depending of speakers and personal taste, I like Tung-sol (rounder), RCA (cleaner) and Sylvania (more extension on top)
