What exactly does it sound like when tubes go microphic? Do they do it all the time or just on certain recordins at certain volumes?

I was listening last night and just through on a couple cds when I thought I heard a slight rining sound like a whistle. I turned the volume up and down and it was there but not on all recordings. I tapped the WLA12A and I could hear the tap through the speakers which was odd as it doesn't do that all the time. It actually stopped after I turned everything off and then back on but to be on the safe side I rolled my JAN Tall 6SN7 SYL out and rolled in my other short sylvanias. I listened a while longer and tapped on the preamp with nothing coming out of the speakers. I thought all was well till I was listening to the O'Brother soundtrack and I heard a slight whistle not as loud as before but it sounded a little like guitar feedback..... I guess the question is could this be on the actual recording or do I still have a microphonic tube somewhere or something else? Or is it in my head...hope not.

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
