Now, which tube is the E40CC a good substitute for because this is a new one for me>If you look it up, you'll see it isn't a substitute for anything - it's a rimlock tube and needs a rimlock base. It was a precurser of the E80CC. Very popular in Europe in its time and highly regarded. Has a lovely detailed tone and specially good treble. They still sell well on ebay in Europe - usually advertised from France, Holland and Germany. The ceramic base drops into the noval chassis hole, but the usual brown base versions are a fraction wider in diameter.
I'm really wanting to use them in a phono stage instead of 6922s - it's simply a far superior sound.
