An audio modulator is an audio power amplifier. The 211, the 2A3, 300B, 807, 1625 were all used as audio modulators in radio transmitters before they were used in audio-hifi. But probably the most ubiquitous would be the 6SN7 family; the 6C5 6J5, 12J5, 7N7.
