Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

Folks - anyone out there have additional information on the 6L6 tube family? I know the old radiotron 6L6, 1614 and 1622 are in the same 'family'. My GUESS is that they are the same tube, but screened by RCA (or whoever made them) for special application. The 1614 is used in hf transmission applications and, for example, has a Max. plate voltage of 375 as opposed ot 360 for 6L6 (and higher plate dissipation). The 1622 on the other hand was made for audio (Class A1) amplifiers with low distortion, but it's rated only for 300 V max on the plate (and lower plate diss).SO - are they the same tube, or are they 'built' differently? I would not like putting them in my amp, running 360V on the plate without be absolutely, positively sure.....
THANKS for any clues....
