the 12AT7/KT88 combo is very good.I loaded my 12AT7's with 300H chokes, but with the right RCA Black Plate 12AT7 it did have tremendous depth and slam, much more than I thought it would.
So here is the question: what would the SimpleSE sound like with a good EI12AT7, and KT77's this is what I would be inspired to experiment and design for.
Where are we going to get the good cheap 12AT7's now that EI is not producing? My EI's were a great day to day tube: I subbed the special Black Plates when I wanted something really good.
The sylvania WGT's and Mullards, Teles were also good. The Brimar was the only tube (other than the RCA) which was really better than the EI 12AT7. So what do you think??
Thanks for the link Jayme:The SimpleSE looks great. It even inspires me to start seriously looking at my own custom build outs/special components/nice retro brass wood cabinetry, etc.
