is the 202 the el84 version?i know my trioded el34 (302?) was about halved-- 17 watts or so- so if it is the el84- you'd be at 7 1/2 (?).
if your speakers are efficient enough or you listen at low levels-- you won't suffer much-- you'll have almost as much wattage as a single ended 300b amp. you DO lose some headroom-- but clipping gets very soft-- it's difficult to percieve (some may disagree, no doubt). i personally use a trioded eico hf87, and i love it to death.. but know too, that some people percieve the change as 'losing detail'-- probably out of losing some 'grunt factor'-- but also because some people hear 'treble' as 'detail'.. so be forewarned. in the long run-- i like the triode sound MUCH better-- but in some ways it can seem 'dirtier'-- e.g.-- listening to a manley stingray, which has a triode/pentode switch-- i preferred the pentode. i think a lot of it depends on the circuit, tubes, iron.. i also use horns-- so it's not NEARLY as hard a load to push at around 98-99db.
what're your sonic goals in doing the switch? that might help us hone whether or not it's the right move!
