Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Possibly,...

jb0194,

This mostly reads as though your have a Philips made tube. The "GA" part of the date code is the usual for Philips ECC88 or 6DJ8. As far as I know, if it's an E188CC/7308, the code would begin with "VR". But, the third character should be a number- the revision number. Could the "C" be a "6"? If the "4" is a Delta, then of course, it's a Philips tube produced in the Heerlen, Holland factory. The "4" fpollowing could mean 1964, 74, or 84. A Siemens tube usually has a cast-in circle with a number in it between the pins.

I'm not sure by your description of the getter support. There is typically a splatter shield- flat, solid disk above the upper mica on two flat rectanglular supports and then the getter is on a single thick one above that.

The steel pins also suggest ECC88 as most European E88CC and E188CC had gold pins. There were some late Philips 7308s with steel pins, and also Siemens, identifiable by a long, spindly, no splatter shield, single wire getter support, and the name "SIEMENS" in block letters without the S&H (Siemens and Halske) logo.

Are your tubes anything like?:
