Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Real, but at $50 each, not a great deal

some young guy,

The structure is very distinctive and those are also in the older style Siemens box.

It happens the Siemens 5814A is among my three or four favourite premium 12AU7s and I have 8 - 4 NOS and 4 USED testing new. The 4 used ones- semi-good cosmetically and testing 100 to 105% I bought about three months ago were about $22 each.

You have a pair of good ones- and that they were selected for "radar" use means they're probably very good- matched sections and quiet. I've always had good luck with industrial selected tubes- HP and Textronix.

If I were shopping, I'd bid to something like $40 each, but keep in mind you entering the range of the very best 12AU7's, things like Amperex 7316s. I would consider starting the auction a bit lower opening bid, but then again you may have someone- probably from Germany- that will jump in.

Cheers,

Bambi B
