Home Tubes Asylum

Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

His statement that you should probably stick to a new manufacturer to start

is probably correct. Vintage amps require some knowledge of soldering, at the least. Trouble shooting at the most. If you don't have someone around to help you out, don't do it. Taking one of those to a tech can get expensive. Web sites for Antique Sound Lab and Jolida are a place to start. Do a search through the archives. People are always asking for recommendations for tube amps so there is a ton of information there. Also, since you have Klipsch, head over to the SET (single ended triode) asylum. I am a push pull fan myself (two tubes doing the output for each channel instead of one as with SET) but it won't hurt to explore since you have such effecient speakers. SET is low power and requires highly effecient speakers which you have.

If you can learn to solder, kit building is a lot of fun and you can get really great value building something like a Bottlehead amplifier should you choose to go the SET route. Good luck!
