Generally, the newer amps would be the way to go, especially for your first experience with tubes. Older amps that have been restored with better caps and the like might be worth considering if purchased from a reliable, well respected party.After you get your feet wet and determine how deep into valves you want to dive, restoring an older amp or buying one might make more sense.
I would consider a newer amp and then some tube rolling as a first step. Perhaps some NOS American, Holland and German tubes as a start.
