Re: 83 eliminator

I use one in my Preamp as my amps are S/S and that might change soon. I at first was using 5u4g and I tried them all (most) and I was happy but the designer of my preamp said I should try some other rectifer tubes as I keep telling him I was again trying another 5u4g.
He said the 83 + 80 make good rectifers and I should try them as any 5v Rectifer will work in my preamp.
He had a 4pin adapter to fit my socket and I was off an running. I also believe it was Ed Sawyer that posted here as well saying the 83 is a good one.
Well I pretty much find it better than any 5u4g that I had used. I found the midrange to be much nicer and high end to also be so sweet. I was going to say the tube has a very good tonal balance but it is a little light on bass. But I find it to be much more open with lots of air.
I havn't tried the 80 yet but I will. So as it is I go back and forth sometimes between an 83 and a Valve Art 274B which I find very smiular to the 83 but with better bass.
