Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Food for thought

Only the price of the 225 and Marantz 8b's have gone through the roof. I have about what I can sell the McIntosh 2105 for, approximately $1000. So no open check book here.

Amps are a funny thing. I do believe you need a good one. But the strong link in the chain, for me anyway, is the preamp.

If you were reading some of the posts prior to this one my concern was reliablility. The Mc SSs are wonderful pieces (if any mac manics happen to read this) but are low on dependablility. I don't want the headache of having this thing serviced in the future. Because it seems Mc's ALL DO!

Tube gear I can mangage "most" of it on my own. Plus I just like tubes a little bit better. It gives me the freedom to try new tubes and change the sound around a little.

And yeah the C-26 isn't the end all in preamps. One day that will change too. But I sure would like the looks of the Mc gear.

BTW my speakers are find as far as bass output. the Mc really pumps it out with controls flat.
