Charles, I don't want to lead you to believe that a 225 is the best tube amp choice for lots of bass. A 225 will do a good job driving big efficient speakers and some smaller acoustic suspension speakers at lesser listening levels, but if your speakers aren't capable of reproducing real deep bass then more power and EQ is needed if your woofers can handle that. Also depends on what you call bass. A peak in response between 60 and 100HZ might be called good bass but solid to 30HZ with no EQ is great bass to me. How many of us have that? I once bought a BSR equalizer at Salvation Army for $7 for the ha ha's and was very surprised that it had very little insertion effects in a $100,000 system. Either the BSR was good or the expensive system wasn't all that revealing. Where I'm going with this is that maybe you can get a "cheap" equalizer to help you figure out if there's a bass frequency region you like or if you need full extension. My Altecs don't go down as low as I'd like but they sure have bass and I always wondered if a more flat and extended bass response would be more or less appealing to me.
