Re: The old tube amp question again

"Simple" rebuilds are frequently not so simple and they involve PLENTY of work. Would approx. 15 WPC of PP triode joy be to your liking? The driver circuitry in "El Cheapo" was intended from the start to be extensible. Fisher and Scott took full advantage of the fact that the drive requirements of the 7591A are only SLIGHTLY greater than that of the EL84. You can too. El Cheapo's 12AT7 splitter/driver will COMFORTABLY feed PP 7591As. Suitable O/P transformers are available from EDCOR (www.edcorusa.com) at modest cost. You could build an extended "El Cheapo" and have money left over from your budget to buy recordings.

El Cheapo is an "integrated" amp and a line stage is not needed. If you LOVE 1 of your preamps that has line stage gain, switching the 12AT7 to a 6J6 keeps total gain in order.

I've provided a link to the El Cheapo schematic that's contained in a LENGTHY thread. Look at the schematic before reading the entire SAGA.

Jim McShane and I will support your build, should you choose to proceed. There are lots of people here on AA and over on DIY Audio who will assist you too.

BTW, Plitron has suitable trafos for the B+ rail you would need.
