Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Re: Good info - never been impressed with this tube

"Maybe the samples I auditioned would have been rejects (but isn't this screening part of GT's premium price?), or maybe they just didn't get enough "foo foo dust" to make their magic. Regardless, there are many less expensive new production tubes that are vastly superior in my estimation."

A lot of people really like the 12AX7M. It is really the only modern 12AX7 with a "warm" top end. If you don't like them that's fine, don't buy them. But a very large number of people like them a lot, are you saying they're all mistaken?

"What I want to know is why all the vendors on the Asylum say the Ei's are crap because of high rejection rates, but it's okay for a $24 Groove Tube 12AX7???"

First off, who said the reject rate was okay? I never did, and I don't recall anyone else who did. What I did say was that the reject rate was too high, but I hoped it would come down - and I thought it would since the GT was only in production a relatively short time. The Ei stuff was good at one time and deteriorated to the sorry state where it is now. If you don't see those two scenarios as different circumstances I don't know what to tell you.

And if you opted to pay $24.00 for them that was your choice. They could have been purchased from some Asylum sponsors for less than that.

"Was GT not screening these tubes or what??? Tell me again, what was that premium price for???? Must be the Foo Foo Dust!!!!"

Come on, isn't this a bit over the top? There was likely nothing wrong with the tubes you heard, you just didn't like them in that particular application.

You didn't like them. We get it.
