May I suggest a compromise?; get a vintage Dyna Stereo 70 on Ebay and replace the raggedy Dyna 7199-tube input board, install an SDS power supply board under the chassis, and install dual bias controls. All these mod kits are available from Triode Electronics.com. There is NO WAY to equal the quality of the Dynaco transformers in a kit that costs less than $1000 or so; and a fully modded Stereo 70 is an unbelievably good amp. They go for $350-$425 in stock trim on ebay; the unassembled board kits for upgrading will run another couple hundred... but you will have a finished amp that walks all over anything under $1500 or so. And assembling the input and power supply boards will give you a major taste of DIY assembly. This is a great 1st project in SO many ways; you get the fun of tearing down the amp, assembling the new boards, and you wind up with an updated version of one of the all time great vintage amplifiers. Everyone who is into tubes should own a Stereo 70 at one time or another; they are almost a rite of passage! But mostly, for the money, you just get SO much. I've heard $2000 Conrad Johnson amps that were only SLIGHTLY better than a modded Dyna 70.
