For audio purposes, the 6AQ5 and 6AQ5A are the same. The "A" at the end of 7 and 9 pin miniature type designations indicates controlled heater warm up time. Controlled heater warm up time is important when series strings of tube heaters are used. Such series strings were employed in TVs for cost containment reasons.
