I am afraid to say that I too actually like the Mullard not sure which sub type, because they came in the vintage amp I bought. I have to comment that the initial issue was a sound quality that sounds edgy which is very atypical of EL84s so it makes me wonder. My favorite variant is a higher plate voltage variant the Sylvania 7868, I have used 7159s as well and frankly they all sounded fairly good. Currently I use the Sylvanias and Mullards as well as the Russian 6lP4 but these are unbranded. I assume they are from the Sovtek conglomerate. They sound the worst but I haven't had a chance to roll them into my better vintage pieces these too came with the amp. I could be wrong and they are Chinese. I don't recommend the EH 7868 they are too big size wise, hard sounding and difficult to fit into vintage ceramic sockets. In fact they are not really an alternative electronically. Unless someone knows better. I know that the 7868 amp bias and circuit fries (i have fried some) a regular EL84 6BQ5, not sure if that's true vice versa.
