replacing gain potentiometer on Audiio Research Sp8 MKII

68.22.153.134

Hello-- 1st Thanks in advance for any help here. My beloved Audio Research SP8 MKII (rev 5)has had a minor problem with the gain pot since it was last removed from storage. Adjusting the gain reveals several "crackling" spots; always the same positions (12 o'clock to 3 o clock or so.) I have tried (with the power off) gently twisting the gain from min to max MANY TIMES; this helped only a TINY bit, and I''m getting carpal tunnel. The 2nd prob. is minor, but I want to replace this pot. The ARC DB shows on the schematic that it is a 100K, logrhythmic taper pot; there is a Nobles in there now. I called ARC and the tech said "we use Alps blue Velvets Now. $85 plus shipping" Ahem. Micheal Percy has Nobles and Alps for $19.99 each; they have the same electrical specs, look to have the same soldering connections, etc. Will these work? Or does ARC have some special shaft diameter, or? Should I stick with Noble as that is what is in there, or is the Alps superior? HELP! Any info apprecited! Thanks again.
