It's funny. A lot of folks recommends Mullard EL84s. I have tried two sets of these and they just sound too soft. I personally like the Amperex EL84 and 7189. The Sovtek EL84M is not bad. A friend lend me a pair. But I have no luck locating them at all. I think the 6P-14P-EB sounds different than the Sovtek EL84M.There are a lot of GE, Sylvania, and RCA 6BQ5s (US version of EL84) around. They sound pretty good and the price is still fairly reasonable.
