G Squared, hi. Why fool around with EI? Go for used Old Stock or New Old Stock. Are you familiar with Antique Electronics Supply or Radio Daze? Use google. Although there are some new production power tubes that are mighty mighty good it is my opinion that the old production small signal tubes beat the tar out of the new. There are some good practical reasons for this having to do with economies of scale and what was state of the art. The military industrial complex is probably not going resume mass production of tubes necessary for guided missles or the Strategic Air Command. Fortunately they made a heck of a lot of them way back when. Also take a look at the Industrial/Military special purpose versions of 12AX7(A) like 5751, 7025, etc. Then there are the European versions with their own designators. There are So many other good choices. Hope this helps.
