NOS = New-Old Stock - ie, made in the days of yore and still unused. Most of the old tubes are better (*general handwaving*) than the new production - if you think about it, back then tubes _were_ the electronic component - so there was more care in the design and engineering.Having said that, I had good luck running new Ei EL84s in my (now departed) Heath UA-1 amplifiers - they are cheaper than Telefunken, Mullard, RCA, GE, etc. I'm sure someone else can chime in with their favorite new productions or NOS.
