Ponderings on the PV10 vs. PV-12

When I was trying to figure out the voltage regulator circuit in my PV-10 I looked up some schematics online, for the PV-14.

As far as I could see, the main differences between the PV-10 and 12 are the addition of:

- Voltage pre-regulator for the filament stages, probably to reduce the impedance of the power supply, so they could get rid of the 1.8k resistor, but maybe also to make the MJE-340's a bit more reliable by reducing the power dissipation in each darlington stage.
- 2 separate voltage regulators for the phono stage (which I don't need)
- Several polystyrene bypass caps added around many of the filter caps.

The line stage looks identical however to the PV-10, except for the change to a 2 uF PS on the output stages instead of a 4uF PP.

So, it seems that if I wanted to upgrade in the tradition of C-J, I should get some bypass caps to put around the filter caps, change or bypass the output cap, and find a way to reduce the impedance of the filament regulator, perhaps by bypassing the .15uF cap between the two 20uF power supply caps with a beefier cap.

Thoughts?

Anyone know if the bypass polystyrene caps are Solen's also?

Thanks!

Erik
