Death of a 6C33C-B Power Tube

Wtih respect, I have a wonderful VK-60 Balanced Audio Technology (d-board revision)-- one of the power tubes ostensibly went bad -- there had been precursors for about a month (everything would be fine after a period of time) of first very, very slight 'pops'; then the pops came more frequently and were louder -- then the pops turned into a pop-thick sounding thud; then there were many multiple thuds in a rapid kind of succession ie., perhaps 8; and finally last night, firstly, multiple thuds, then a type of 5-8 second continual eruption which eventually stopped/I immediately turned the unit off/I also smelled a very slightly burning smell -- the bias light went out for this particular tube. My questions:

1. Is this a familiar 'fail' pattern for this type of tube?

2. I put in another 6C33C-B tube as a replacement/but did not play -- presto, bias light was back on! So it would seem to me that this type simply failed.

3. I looked to see if any of the filiment elements were no longer working on the seemingly failed tube -- but there they all were -- compared to other failures that I have had with this tube, wherein some filiment no longer lit up -- so I won't to make sure that people who know this tube and perhaps the BAT unit with it -- really do believe that it is a failed tube and not a resistor or the like internally?

Best regards,
