they were made throughout the 1970s. the 'B' indicates that it was the latest version with a reset switch in case of a shorted tube.a dissenting opinion - imo many consider the 747B line of testers to be one of the better testers out there. just behind the tv-7 line of testers and maybe the superlative hickok 6000/534 testers.
solid state reliability coupled (you may need to replace the old electrolytics though) with a much more sensitive shorts/leakage test than the hickok testers plus an extremely easy-to-use interface makes for a good tester imo. the 747 is also EXTREMELY easy to calibrate.
