(I also posted this in the amp/preamp section, but I realize now that it probably belongs here. Sorry for the duplication.)

Advice needed...

My wife and I have finally resigned ourselves to the fact that our baby/office/TV room will soon have to become a dedicated baby room. (His bedroom is more spacious than ours!) To begin this process I have moved the large-ish TV, DVD, and VCR upstairs to our living room and installed it in the 2-channel system. But it really doesn't all fit: the tubes are cramped and the CD-recorder has been banished to the closet.

Currently I have a BAT VK-60 and Sonic Frontiers Line 3 (and BAT VK-10) for amplifictaion. I love the combo -- with the somewhat dry Line 3 mating well with the smooth and bold BAT amp. But, as I said, the tubes are cramped, and thus running hot, in the new arrangement -- and with the too-big-for-a-rack VK-60 on the floor, there's just not room for another shelf stand.

One solution is to reduce the total of pieces I have. I am considering the VK-300x (with tube preamp section) as a replacement for the Line 3 and VK-60 -- trading a one-box integrated for my 3-box amp/preamp combo. But my wife says I'll regret selling the tube amp. She's probably right. Another solution would be to buy a more compact BAT VK-55 and put it on the bottom shelf of a new shelf stand.

What do you guys think? Would making either of these trades be a terrible step ("down")? Any and all opinions are welcome.

Thanks.

Jeffrey
