It sounds as if the problem is the amp. With a XLR plug, one always has a choice which of the two floating inputs to ground, and which to operate as signal input. The conversion is standardised...sort of. Anyway, your new preamp works into the receiver, so it isn't the problem. Is there any way that you can drive the amp with another preamp to ensure that it is operating correctly?
