I keep wondering what could be done with a proper chassis, and a DIY-style PS. 866's, choke input, film caps...6SL7 front end, 6SN7 second stage LTP inverter, 6BL7 driver and a pentode cathode follower, perhaps a 12GN7.
The 30's I am playing with have a full voltage negative rail. So, the high value cathode load is close enough to ideal. L-C filter that supply while we're at it, and adjust value appropriately.
