I had been thinking of doing something similar....I was planning to make an amp based upon the similar Eico HF-87 power amp with is EL-34 based. This also uses a 6600CT tranny. The schematic of that amp looks very straightforward and uses a 6SN7 as a driver which I was curious to try. I was thinking about building it with large iron so I could use something larger than EL34 (e.g., a 6550) in the future.Never owned anything EL34/6SN7 based so I can't comment on sonics (which is why I'm thinking about doing this project). I recently refurbished a Fisher 400 with a quad of EH 7868's (similar to 7591) and have been very pleased with the results.
Good luck with your project
