Olly I have found where many of the newer tubes sound great at first and then you may fall into listener fatigue. The gray tubes tho whether being nos or new production sound about the same. The 6550 black plates tho are my favorite as is the 6l6gc black plates and Im sure your RCA 2a3 is a black plate.Shuguang is making black plates now and I think they will be a much more formidable competitor to the nos once they go to a BP.We do have tube rolling to and I think thats one of the reasons we do because we do get tired of a certain personna as opposed to another. There are days I just love an elegant presentation when im listening to classical music and for that I use my TS 6550 black plates or my 6l6g black plates. When Im lisenting to guitar or jazz I like a little harder slam so will put the genes or the JJS in.When I listen to rock I like the headroom in the JJS and Genes again. When I want the overall best balance and accuracy its back to the TS black plates and lately its been the Shuguang kt88 solid plates.
